ABOUT BURKE MOUNTAIN SKI AREA

Sometimes you can judge a mountain by looking at the skis people are wearing. At Burke one will find fat expert skis, nice snowboards, sleek racing carvers, and some old straight-cut boards all on the feet of grinning folks. Located in the Northeast Kingdom, Burke is one of the prettiest areas to visit and one of the greatest to ski. The mountain offers 50 trails and glades with a solid 2,000 vertical feet split into two distinct areas — 400 vertical feet of easy, mile-long beginner crusing trails at the bottom and another 1,600 vertical section of intermediate cruisers and expert bump and tree runs above the MidBurke Lodge. Experts have their choice of bump runs such as Wilderness or long, uninterrupted, snowchoked tree runs that drop more than 1,000 vertical feet such as Dixiland.

Home to America’s premier racing school, Burke Mountain Academy, one can ski side-by-side with some future Olympians as they rip down the Dippers, Willoughby, or any other steep fall-line groomed run that “makes every turn faster.” Burke’s laid-back vibe is authentic – it’s a local’s mountain where folks on older boards share their passion for the mountain with neighbors and new guests alike. Midweek hundreds of local school kids call Burke their playground and on the weekends and holidays the lines are scant. Just minutes off of I-91 in Lyndon, Burke is a mountain that you can “get to from here,” so give it a try.
