ABOUT JAY PEAK RESORT
Two things come to my mind when I think of Jay Peak: snow and glades. Hit Jay on a good day, and you can find some incredible powder that other New England resorts envy. With an annual snow fall average of over 300 inches, Jay stands as the snowiest eastern resort thanks to its location and local weather patterns. But it gets better. Jay is the glade skiing pioneer and one can choose from a wide variety of tree runs ranging from the easy Moonwalk to the steep Face Chutes. The fact is Jay is another world. Located just minutes from the Canadian border, the resort seems more like Europe than Vermont. Quebecois floats in the air as you ride the chair and the base area features European architecture.
Besides the glades, Jay has some great steep cruisers and bumps on Stateside, which usually opens in November. The Bonaventure and Green Mountain Flyer Quads serve up great tree and steep bump runs in between some pleasant wide boulevard trails. The new ‘Beginner Zone’ is found at the base and features its own quad, a double, and a couple of surface lifts as well as some nice gentle terrain. And who can forget the legendary tram? The 360 degree view from the summit is breathtaking and even intermediates can enjoy it thanks to mellow summit cruisers such as Vermonter and Northway. Skiers and riders will find two separate base areas including Stateside, which is the local’s hangout, and the full service Tram Base Area. Jay is remote, but well worth the drive for those who live to ski and want incredible snow.
